Another sad day as South Africans mourn the passing on of Veteran musician Philip Tabane

South Africans are mourning the passing on of the Veteran Jazz musician Philip Tabane, who died at age 84 due to age related illness. The late musician (Phillip Tabane), who was best known for his hits Nkupi and Muvhango, died at the Mamelodi hospital in Pretoria on Friday morning.

The news of his death did not sit well to his fans and the South Africans at large. ” It was a massive shock to all of us and the news is still quite fresh. We console ourselves with the knowledge that he was surrounded by family when he passed,” Dr Sello Galane, the close friend, is heard saying.

He was born in Pretoria and at a young age formed the music trio The Malombo Jazz Men. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the South African Music Awards in 1998.

Tabane was hailed as one of the best musicians in South Africa and still continued to perform, despite his age.

In the performance below, he was 75 years old when he took to the stage.

  1. It is a sad moment in the country indeed as we have lost one of the best musician that we love dearly. He is going to be deeply missed and his legacy will stay with his fans for a very long time. Rest in peace Phillip Tabane.
