Siphokazi aim to Inspire Other Young Women by instilling Positive Values

The search for Soweto’s next beauty queen, Miss Soweto 2017, has come and gone and the girls are back to their communities to continue with their lives. “This amazing event is the perfect platform for young women to empower themselves and their communities, particularly by showcasing their skills in beauty contesting.

Siphokazi Jika is one of the few young women who participated in the much anticipated Miss Soweto 2017 which took place at the Soweto Theatre on November 25, 2017. The event has seen many young beautiful women descends to the Soweto Theatre to showcase and compete for the top spot on the list.

“Education is invaluable and I am not going to trade it for anything on earth”, said Siphokazi. I want to achieve and become a role model to someone whose background is not fortunate. I want to show other young people that you can participate in the events such as Miss Soweto 2017 and still have the ambitions to succeed academically.

“Not only does Siphokazi aim to inspire other young women from both her community and school to rise above their deprived backgrounds, but also to strives to equip them with a passion for community service and most importantly to instill positive values to the community at large.

Miss Soweto pageant was established in 1979 and was created to bring awareness to the women of Soweto. Well-known celebrities who were winners of Miss Soweto in previous years include Basetsana Makgalemele-Kumalo, businesswoman and Top Billing presenter and producer, who was crowned Miss South Africa in 1994 and was a runner-up in Miss World 1995, and former SABC newsreader Augustine Masilela.

Miss Soweto 2016, Nthabiseng Priscilla Kgasi (22)  from Protea Glen, said “what makes the pageant and overall title significant is that it represents the most influential township in the country and the opportunities afforded to the winner to create a positive impact on the Soweto community are phenomenal!

“They must also use every opportunity that comes with the title to make a real impact on the lives of the Soweto community, but most importantly to make it work for them beyond the pageant.”
