Kagiso Segone is a Hip-Hop Artist, Writer, Social Activist, Filmmaker, and Media Practitioner who hails from Khutsong, Carletonville. He is one of the few creatives who is inspired by his creativity. He has a burning desire to see things happening in his community. He wants to communicate with different types of audiences who use different media platforms for their information.
As an all-rounder, Kagiso has four films with the following titles:
- One Day– which speaks about poor service delivery in the community.
- Friends– This is the film I made with the intent of educating people about lifestyle (s) in the township.
- Troublesome– This one is the film looking at school going kids and the social issues they get entangled themselves in while at school.
- Get a Boy– This is a film which was inspired by my personal story because as a boy there was a time when I wanted to play soccer but was constrained by social issues including bullying.
In addition to film-making skills, Kagiso is also a musician who has (a) three (3) mixed tapes, experimental project (b) Single Track titled “Move it”, which is a fun song with no insightful meaning. Senone’s plan is to establish himself as a brand, but not just as an artist.
Kagiso is currently growing and nurturing his brand which is entitled “Vibration Taylor”, which came from a song by the late reggae musician Bob Marley. “I connect with the song because I usually give out positive energy to the people around me”, said Segone. His view about life is that he wants to break the normalization of negativities in people’s lives by championing positive thinking amongst people.
The brand [Vibration Taylor] is attached to the music, and on the other hand the music is also attached to the brand. All this creates an overall brand awareness! Kagiso is soon going to embark on promoting his music and brand to raise funds for his life performance show that is scheduled to happen in September 2024. The ideal place for the Life Performance is at the Civic Centre!
Even though Kagiso is a multi-talented artist, he values the concept of collaboration by deciding to work with local artists during his promotional tour. I am a firm believer who want to share my resources and skills to improve the lives of others, that is why I decided to collaborate with others.
I am beginning to plan about building my own recording studio through which I will be able to assist local artists who struggles with resources.
His advice to the youth and up and coming artists is that they should invest in their own crafts rather than relying on others. “You must create your own blueprint through your craft and ensure that you benefit from that craft”, said Segone.
