Stuart Baxter appeals to the nation to put the differences behind and to rally behind the national team.

Soccer is probably the biggest participant sport in the country (world), and certainly one of the most watched in the world, so it is no secret that it has a very large following in the rest of the world and all over Africa.

While there are many good teams in South Africa that are been followed and/or favored by the majority, it is interesting that there are 2 major teams Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs followed by Mamelodi Sundowns.

The fan base of the South African soccer is quite amazing as the game is taken seriously. It is bad when the Soweto Derby is playing as that creates division and quarrels amongst people in the community as they defend their teams.

SAFA president Danny Jordaan and CEO Dennis Mumble introduced Baxter to the media for the first time since his appointment in the recent past and they revealed that the new man had been given a five-year contract at the helm of the national team. After having waited for a long time for the announcement of the new coach now South Africans have someone to rely on and blame when things are not working with the national team.

A man of Baxter’s caliber who led the national team before and the other PSL teams, we believe he really knows what it means to be a national coach of a team such as Bafana Bafana. Acknowledging for the first time after having won the interviews he took note of the reaction that accompanied his return to Safa House‚ Baxter said he hoped that the nation’s soccer lovers would get behind the national team ahead of the difficult 2019 African Nations Cup qualifier against Nigeria next month.

“Now when my name is mentioned with the national team again we got a lot of negativity‚” Baxter said on Monday. Wait and see what is going to happen to the coach if the team can perform bad in their one game of national order. Perhaps the way South Africans loves soccer is confusing as they are not an easy fans to please. Well, it remains to be seen on how the fans are going to behave when the national team is playing their national and international games.
