The Nigerian writer Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani wrote about the ordeal faced by the parents of the missing Chibok girls who remains at large since 2014. The girls were stolen from school in North-Eastern Nigeria on 14 April 2014 by the militant group of Boko Haram.
Of the more than 200 girls taken from their dormitory on 14 April 2014, 107 have been rescued or freed in negotiations between the Nigerian government and the Islamist militants, while more than 100 remain missing.
In January 2019, 18 siblings of some of the still missing Chibok girls, whose education is being sponsored by a local charity, were involved in a car accident with eight of the girls sustaining severe injuries. It is reported that the returned girls were pursuing their studies at Yola, to the American University of Nigeria. The irony of this is that the Islamists Militants of Boko Haram have issues with Western education as they claim to have kidnapped the girls because they were been introduced to Western Education.
So far the world is still shocked about the abduction of the girls which happened five years later and we are wondering about what could have happened to those who are still at large? It seems risky to have the girls continue studying Western education which appears to have triggered the whole ordeal. The world is waiting to see what will happen to those girls who are still pursuing Western education.
