After two successful seasons of high drama, e.tv’s telenovela Ashes to Ashes comes to an end with a nail-biting finale on Friday, 2 September at 8PM.

Ashes to Ashes is set against the backdrop of Namane Funerals, a family-owned business in Tembisa. The funeral parlour is headed by husband and wife duo, Mandlakazi and Selogile Namane, who inherited it from their parents. The pair have created an empire with the assistance of their children Tsietsi, Reba and the late Monwabisi Namane.

On the surface, all looks well, but season two saw the Namane family haunted by a deep, dark secret about the murder of Nomzamo Mazibuko. The details were constantly swept under the carpet to keep the family intact, but the truth always comes to light in the end.

“We are pleased with the success of Ashes to Ashes and humbled by the loyal following that the telenovela enjoyed over its two-season run,” says Marlon Davids, Managing Director of e.tv. “Part of our strategy is to ensure that we keep the 8PM slot fresh, with gripping, authentic local content that resonates across South Africa. As a result, we will be saying goodbye to Ashes to Ashes and introducing a new telenovela, which will debut on Monday 5 September at 8PM.”

As Ashes to Ashes races towards its gripping conclusion, the Namane family will face a series of shocking events, as more scandals unfold, threatening the unity of the family. The season finale will be brimful of heart-wrenching, emotional moments as the household races against time to save Mandlakazi from Bab’Hlongwane.

Will Tsietsi agree to use his daughter as bait? And how will the family take Selo’s confession about the murder of Nomzamo Mazibuko?

Don’t miss the season finale of Ashes to Ashes, Friday 2 September at 8PM.

Federer to battle Nadal for Miami crown

14

Miami – Roger Federer beat Australia’s Nick Kyrgios 7-6 (11/9), 6-7 (9/11), 7-6 (7/5) in a thriller on Friday to set up a mouth-watering Miami Open final against Rafael Nadal.

Federer and Kyrgios produced an extraordinary range of shots in an enthralling, fiercely intense semi-final that kept a capacity crowd at Key Biscayne on the edge of their seats for the entire three hours and ten minutes of action.

When Federer won the third tie-break a furious Kyrgios hammered his racket into the ground three times as the frustration of a remarkable near-miss came flooding out.

The Australian’s big serve, touching 140 mph at times, delivered 14 aces, but Kyrgios also hit some spectacular winners and played his part in a series of stirring rallies.

But Federer was a match for most that came his way and was able to avenge his loss to Kyrgios from two years ago in Madrid also in a match which was decided by three tie-breaks.

“It felt very good. You don’t very often play three breakers in a match. Winning breakers is always such a thrill,” said Federer who enjoyed the battling aspect of the encounter.

“I tried to really fight for it,” he said. “I can’t always show my fighting skills, it is great winning this way.”

While Federer now has a chance of a rare Indian Wells/Miami double, Kyrgios was left to take some compensation from his performance.

“I had some ups and up and downs, bit of a roller coaster,” said the 21-year-old.

“Ultimately I think I put in a good performance. I thought the crowd would’ve enjoyed watching it, people at home would’ve enjoyed watching it. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they found something bad, though,” he added.

Kyrgios broke in the first set to go 4-3 up but Federer, with the loud crowd behind him, broke back to level at 5-5 when the Australian missed with an attempted big return.

The big-hitting Kyrgios was frequently booed by the crowd for racquet throwing and language — and sometimes for very little — but appeared to be enjoying the role of pantomime villain.

The first set tie-break was a gripping affair with the Australian twice having set point before it was decided when his return went wide. The boos rang out again as he hurled his racquet in frustration.

The serve dominated more in the second set and with neither player able to break another tie-break was needed. Federer had match-point at 8-7 but found the net with his return.

Kyrgios finally won the battle with an amazing cross-court return to go 10-9 up, then followed it up with a thundering ace to force a third set.

There was nothing to choose between the pair in a third set that went to yet another tie-break.

Kyrgios was furious when a fan called out during one point, and Federer enjoyed two successful challenges late on his way to a win that sent the crowd wild with delight as Kyrgios went wild with rage.

There was little drama in Nadal’s 6-1, 7-5 win over Italian Fabio Fognini.

The unseeded Fognini struggled to get going in the first set which was dominated by fifth-seeded Nadal and over with in 25 minutes.

The Italian, who indicated he had some trouble with his elbow, put up a better response in the second but his work was undone when he double-faulted on break point, leaving the Spaniard to serve out for the win,

Nadal will play in his fifth Miami final but will be looking for his first title in the Masters series event.

“I think I played a very good first set,” Nadal said. “He had mistakes obviously. In the second, it was not about losing concentration, it’s about not being lucky at the beginning of the second set.

“I had so many chances … when you don’t convert opportunities you’re in trouble, and that’s what happened,” he said.

Federer beat Nadal in an Australian Open final thriller in January to claim an 18th Grand Slam title and he swept past Nadal in straight sets in the fourth round at Indian Wells en route to the title there.

“If it’s Roger, going to be another one for both of us, and that’s it. Just another one,” Nadal said of another instalment in their long-running rivalry.

Changing patterns changes appearance

After making headlines for flaunting her booty in revealing outfits Skolopad has decided to move away from being known for just the nudity.

Instead the musician plans on rebranding herself to be known more for her singing talent rather than showing off her nudity. Whilst the musician has decided to change the attire she wears-we believe that is not going to sit well with her male fans.

“I am going to be sexy but in a different way. I don’t just want to be associated with nudity but I want people to know that I am an entertainer. So my two outfits will show people a Skolopad my mother is proud of,” she said.

Well, it remains to be seen on how her “rebirth” is going to be perceived by her audiences. The musician told TshisaLIVE that she was excited for people to see her Durban July outfits because they will see a “rebirth” of Skolopad.

LOGAN

In 2029[1], the Mutant population has shrunk significantly and the X-Men have disbanded. No new mutants have been born in over twenty years, and as their numbers dwindled, Professor X’s dreams of a new stage in evolution slowly died.

A weary Logan has surrendered himself to alcoholism, now earns a living as a limo-driving chauffeur in a town on the Mexican border, and is hustling for medication that he takes out south to a remote, makeshift home and hideout, he shares with Caliban, nursemaid to the ailing and infirm, old Professor X, whom he and Caliban take care of and keep hidden away. In addition, Logan’s power to self-heal is dwindling; fading as he has aged, with his face and body being scarred from past injuries and battles.

One day, Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are ended when a female stranger asks him to drive a girl named Laura to the Canadian border. At first, Logan refuses, but the Professor reveals that he has been waiting a long time for her to appear. Laura possesses an extraordinary fighting prowess and is in many ways like Wolverine. John Wick is a 2014 American neo-noir action thriller film directed by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch and starring Keanu Reeves, Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo and Willem Dafoe. The film stars Reeves as John Wick, a retired hitman seeking vengeance for the theft of his vintage car and the killing of his puppy, a gift from his recently deceased wife.[3]Stahelski and Leitch directed the film together, though Leitch was uncredited.[4]

The film was written by Derek Kolstad, who completed the screenplay in 2012 and further developed it for Thunder Road Pictures.[5] The film was produced by Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures, Leitch, Eva Longoria, and Michael Witherill. It marks Stahelski and Leitch’s directorial debut as a team after multiple separate credits as second unit directors and stunt coordinators. They previously worked with Reeves as stunt doubles on The Matrix trilogy.[6]

Stahelski and Leitch’s approach to action scenes drew upon their admiration for anime[7] and martial arts films,[8] and the film’s use of fight choreographers[9] and gun fu techniques[10] from Hong Kong action cinema[11]was additionally influential in the development of the film. The film also pays homage to works such as John Woo‘s The Killer, Jean-Pierre Melville‘s Le Cercle Rouge and Le Samouraï,[12] John Boorman‘s Point Blank, and the spaghetti western subgenre of Western films.[13] On its release, the film received positive reviews from critics, who praised the performances, visuals and action sequences, and grossed $88 million worldwide. A sequel, John Wick: Chapter 2, was released in February 2017.
